Mexico Knocks US Men Out of Pan Am Games, To Face Canada in Gold Medal Match, Harrity Never Sees Court from Daily Squash Report
Cesar and Arturo Salazar
July 16, 2015 -
Chris Hanson and Christopher Gordon both had 2-1 leads slip away
Thursday night in Toronto, as gritty Mexico earned a spot in the Pan
American Games men's gold medal match.
World No 108 Arturo Salazar came back against US No 3 Chris Hanson, and
28th-ranked Cesar Salazar came back against US No 2 Chris Gordon to
close it out for the jubilant Mexican squad.
Mexico will take on Canada, who outlasted Argentina 2-1, with Shawn Delierre and Andrew Schnell coming through in the clutch.
In the key US-Mexico contest, Cesar Salazar, who was forced to retire
with an injury up 2-1 in his Pan Am singles semifinal on Sunday,
demonstrated the toughness and fight that he and his Mexican teammates
are known for, pulling out the final two games against Gordon 11-5 and
11-8.
In a coaching move open to debate, the Americans put US national
champion Todd Harrity in the number 2 slot, with Chris Gordon playing
at number 1.
As it turned out, Harrity never got on the court.
