Dateline July 1st ---
Hope Nichols Prockop and Amanda Sobhy will be singing “God Bless
America” in the outfield at Fenway Park in Boston during the 7th inning
stretch of the game this Sunday afternoon between the Boston Red Sox
and California Angels. The game will be broadcast on the New England
Sports Network (NESN) and is scheduled to start at 1:35, with the
singing therefore likely to occur between 3:30 and 4:00 PM. Anyone
wishing to view their performance can access the TV broadcast or tune
in to www.redsox.com.
This multi-talented pair, each a three-time Howe Cup
national team champion at Harvard (Classes of 1990 and 2015
respectively), have previously sung the national anthem both during
squash tournaments at venues like Symphony Hall in Boston and Grand
Central Station in Manhattan, and, most recently, at center ice in
Boston’s TD Garden this past winter prior to the start of the hockey
game between the Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes. That latter rendition
occurred on March 10th, the eve of the U. S. Nationals at Harvard’s
Murr Center, where Sobhy, currently ranked 8th on the women’s world pro
circuit, proceeded to defend her 2015 title without dropping a single
game. One week later, Prockop retained the U. S. 40-and-over and
45-and-over titles she had won in 2015, then captured both these
age-group categories in the British Open competition in London early
last month.
Prockop’s appearance with Sobhy in March followed by just two
weeks her February 25th national anthem performance, also at TD Garden,
as part of the all-female, 16-member Boston-based a Capella group
Broadband, which sang immediately prior to the start of an NBA game
between the Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks --- so this Sunday will
constitute a “hat trick” of sorts for Prockop, leaving her with only
the New England Patriots among Boston major sports teams remaining on a
“to do” list for calendar 2016.
