Rough Second Round In Qatar For North American Boys As US Individual Hopes Eliminated from DailySquashReport.com
July 9, 2012 -
A promising opening day that saw nine North Americans advance in
the 2012 World Men's Junior Individuals was blunted yesterday when all
but one player fell in second round action.
The lone North American man still standing is 18-year-old Cameron Seth
of Canada, who advanced to the round-of-32 with an impressive 5-11 11-7
11-3 11-3 win over Jonathan Barnett of New Zealand.
Top American junior Dylan Murray of Bronxville, New York, took a
disappointing straight-games loss to Juan Vargas of Colombia, while US
teammates Devin McLaughlin, Edward Columbia, Thomas Dembinski and Mason
Ripka were also eliminated.
The best US effort was turned in by Columbia of Boston, who forced a pivotal
overtime third game against 5/8 seed Oliver Holland of England before
losing in a 54-minute four-gamer.
Team Canada's Tyler Olson, Zachary Leman and Josh Sekhar were also second-round losers.
Seth will square off against #1 seed Marwan El Shorbagy of Egypt in today's third round.
