WSA Hamptons Recap, As Sobhy Powers To 8th Career Title by Elliot Selby
August 12, 2013
- She is still just 20 years old but USA's squash superstar Amanda
Sobhy has won her eighth career title at the Hampton Squash Week and
second title in a row following her success at the Buler Challenge Cup
last month.
The number one seed at
the Hampton Squash Week Tour 10 event, Sobhy looked in fine form all
tournament culminating in a dominant performance against Yathreb Adel
in the final. For her part, Adel had another successful week in her
young career as well. Adel, ranked as high as number 30 last year, has
not played as in recent months and is currently sitting at number 70 in
the latest rankings. The 17 year old had to qualify to reach the main
draw and then saw off Victoria Lust, Kanzy Emad Al-Defrawy and Norhan
Ahmed Gohar all in straight games on her way to the final.
Sobhy had earlier
eased her way past compatriot Cecelia Cortes, Brazilian number one
Thaisa Serafini and unseeded 14 year old Habiba Mohamed Ahmed Alymohmed
in the semi final.
Looking to make it a
hat trick of titles this week as she starts favourite to win the Squash
Revolution National Capitol Open in D.C, Sobhy will be aware of facing
another onslaught from the young Egyptians.
Many players would be
more than happy to have finished their careers with the accomplishments
that Sobhy has already achieved, however, at only 20 years old and
still in full time education at Harvard University, this is certainly
only the start of things to come. With her extremely talented sister
Sabrina rising up the rankings too, could we be looking at the new
sister act to rule the squash world?
