- Sarah Kippax claimed her first title in three years after winning the
Tour 10 Hampton Squash Week event in Southampton, New York at the
weekend.
Seeded first for the
event, the Cheshire-born Englishwoman was yet to drop a game heading
into the final after making short work of early round opponents Salma
Hany, Lucie Fialova and fourth seed semi-finalist Samantha Cornett.
Her opponent in the
final, experienced second seed and home-hope Latasha Khan faced
slightly more opposition as she progressed through the
competition. The 39-year-old from Seattle breezed past qualifier
Celia Allamargot in the first round, but dropped a tie-break first game
against Farah Abdel Meguid of Egypt in the quarters. A slow start
cost Khan the first game in her semi-final contest too, but she
recovered to beat Misaki Kobayashi in four games to ensure her spot in
the final.
The American fought
back excellently after losing the first game of the final, and stormed
through an 11-2 second game to level the score. Kippax was always
the more dangerous of the pair however and closed the match out in four
games. The world No.25 claims the eighth WSA World Tour title of
her career and will feature as second seed for this week's WSA Tour 15
Squash On Fire 2012 event in Washington D.C.
