Job Opening: Squash Director, Mile High Squash, Denver

Posted August 15, 2012

Mile High Squash (MHS), a member of the National Urban Squash and Education Association, is a passionate community of learners leveraging its resources – time, relationships, expertise, friendship, finances, determination, advocacy and agency – to help empower non-dominant, low-income students in creating viable pathways to college. While MHS is a relatively young organization – it was founded in 2008 with the key support of Mayor Hickenlooper, the Anschutz Foundation, the Denver Athletic Club, the Hashim Khan Foundation and a dedicated group of educators and business leaders – its roots extend back to 1996, when SquashBusters, the first of 12 member affiliated programs was formed in Boston to play a life-changing role in the lives of students who have been historically underserved in its education system.

Mile High Squash seeks a high-energy, hard-working person with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a BA/BS or higher degree preferred. The ideal candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the game of squash – both singles and North American doubles – and a demonstrated passion for making a difference in the lives of urban youth. The ability to coach players with 0-3 years of playing experience is a must.  Applicant must hold a current driver’s license in good standing.

This is a full time position, year round but with roughly six weeks of vacation per year, requiring a commitment to the MHS mission and its youngest stakeholders, its students. Base salary will be $33,000-$35,000. MHS will provide health care through Kaiser Permanente and will provide a monthly stipend of $70 for a cell phone. Additionally, MHS is prepared to assist with moving expenses and will assist in finding appropriate housing. Finally, there will be opportunities to teach lessons at the Denver Athletic Club, an opportunity that will result in additional income of up to $5,000.
