Three Weeks From Today and Counting by Bob Hanscom
August 18, 2013
Hello all,
On Sunday, September
8th, the International Olympic Committee's general assembly will be
meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina to vote on which new sport will be
added to the Summer Olympic Games of 2020. Will it be squash? No one
really knows! With wrestling and baseball/softball in the mix, it's
difficult to tell.
Wrestling was removed
from the Games in an earlier decision, but following a great deal of
lobbying and their federation's effort to change and upgrade their
practices and policies, the sport was reinstated as one of the three to
be considered.
Much of the world
feels that wrestling, as one of its original Olympic sports, should
never have been removed in the first place - and should be reinstated.
Perhaps this is true...and "reinstated" is what it should be, with
squash being voted in as the only "new" sport.
It will be interesting
to see if the IOC members (finally) come to their senses, making room
for squash to become its true "new" sport for 2020. Fingers crossed all!
