PST Season Kicks Off in Westchester This Weekend from Tour Media
August 20,2013 - Pro Squash Tour returns to Westchester Squash Club this weekend for the Buffalo Wild Wings Open. "This is one of my
favorite squash clubs in America," said PST Commissioner Joe McManus.
"WSC focuses entirely on squash, and they have a wonderful staff of
teaching pros."
Colombian National
Team Member Andres Vargas is seeded first this weekend. However, he
will face stiff competition from four-time El Salvadoran National
Champion Ricky Weisskopf, who is seeded #2. Also competing are US Pan-American Games team member Faraz Khan and hometown hero Tertius Raubenheimer. Tertius is a teaching
pro at Westchester Squash Club. Although he has missed much time from
PST action, he has been training for the beginning of this season and
is in good form. Local fans will certainly be expected to fill the
gallery when Tertius steps on court. The tournament draw
rounds out with former Wales National Team Member Rob Wilkins, who is a
teaching pro just up I-95 at Squash Alley. And this weekend, fan
favorite Ned Marks will return to PST action. Marks, who is now based
in Manhattan splits his time competing on the doubles tour and PST.
Marks has a strong fan base in the region and could be a wild card to
go deep in the tournament. Making his PST debut
this week is former Bowdoin College captain and #1 player Andrew
Hilboldt. "I'm a big fan of this young man," said McManus. "He comes
from one of the great college programs. His coach Thomas Fortson really
teaches the game so well." Hilboldt is seeded to
play Ricky Weisskopf in his opening round match. Weisskopf played his
college squash at Bates College. Up in Maine, the Bates/Bowdoin rivalry
is intense. Expect alums to be paying attention to this result for some
bragging rights. The tournament is being run in conjunction with a junior squash tournament sanctioned by US Squash. For the schedule of matches this weekend, please click here.
