This
five-foot lady (originally from England) has been, seen and IS it
all...from the beginning as a young figure-skater, gymnast, Taekwondo
gold-medal world champion, wife, mother of two sons, (one of which has
autism) and featured on the cover of the 315 page book by Karen Louise
Hollis, "A Golden Era of Gymnastics 1980-84," Cheryl
Weatherstone-Vance is the consummate athlete...plus! As she says in the
book, "My greatest achievements (in gymnastics) were probably winning
the All-Around title at the 1982 British Championships and my
collegiate years at the University of Utah. My favorite memory was
helping the Lady Utes team win the NCAA team gold in 1986." She said
further, "Since retiring from gymnastics, I went on to get my Exercise
and Sports Science Degree (1989) and Physical Therapy Degree (1994) at
the University of Utah. I worked for ten years at a local hospital in
orthopedics." Cheryl then began to pursue a career in the sport of
Taekwondo. She said, "I felt I had so many things I could do and I
wanted to erase some of the ghosts from gymnastics that still haunted
me." Cheryl is now a 5th-degree black belt in Taekwondo and has a
record 26 world championship titles to her name. Cheryl has also
lectured at the international meeting of "Autism Speaks" in Toronto,
which is dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum
disorders, funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments for
autism and to advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and
their families. We thought you'd like to see the cover of the book "A
Golden Era of Gymnastics 1980-84," where Cheryl is pictured. Here it
is...
Post Script: Cheryl is the daughter of Sir Dennis and Marion
Weatherstone of Great Britain. Mr. Weatherstone was the former CEO and
Chairman of J. P. Morgan & Company...and in 1990, was knighted by
Queen Elizabeth, the first J.P. Morgan employee to ever receive such an
honor.
