Number one American woman Amanda Sobhy turned in a commanding
performance in the New Zealand Matamata Open yesterday, overpowering
Megan Craig to advance to a first round main draw matchup today against
third-seeded Rachael Grinham of Australia.
Sobhy beat 19-year-old Craig, of New Zealand, 11-2 11-4 11-4 in just 17 minutes.
Craig had won a first round qualifier over Genevieve Lessard of Canada. Sobhy had a bye into the qualifying finals.
Amanda, ranked #26, is the lone North American representative in the 16-woman main draw.
Madeline Perry of Ireland is the event's top seed, followed by Hong Kong's Annie Au.
Matamata is a semi-rural town of 12,000 in the Waikato region of New Zealand.
