Hany Ibrahim Ahmed Claimes Third WSA Title by Elliot Selby
August 27, 2013 -
Salma Hany Ibrahim Ahmed claimed the third WSA title of her young
career and second title in 2013 with a four game win over third seed
Tong Tsz-Wing in the final. The 17 year old Egyptian already tasted
success in Malaysia earlier this year at the NSC Series No.2 event.
After easy wins in her
first round and quarter finals Hany Ibrahim Ahmed was faced with the
task of beating top seed and world number 22 Joey Chan. Chan, whose
career high ranking of 16, looked on paper like it might be too much
for Hany Ibrahim Ahmed but the Egyptian had other ideas and duly
knocked out the top seed in four games.
On the other side of
the draw Tong Tsz-Wing looked like her ranking rise to no.47 was no
fluke. Tsz-Wing stormed through her first round and quarter finals and
then overwhelmed second seed Lucie Fialova in straight games to reach
her second WSA final of the year.
As with her semi final
Hany Ibrahim Ahmed won the first game of the final, only to drop the
second game before holding off Tsz-Wing to win in four games. Hany
Ibrahim Ahmed will see a possible spot in the world's top 50 in next
month's ranking which will make her the youngest player in the top 50. Final
