Jonathon Power Back On Form For September UK Legends by Tim Garner
August 29, 2012
- Jonathon Power is fired up for a return to the 9 Telecom Legends of
Squash after a disappointing tournament in 2011 when he was forced to
retire on day two with an elbow injury sustained against Nick Taylor,
that effectively ruined his chances of success.
Twelve months on and
Power is relishing the prospect of crossing rackets with perennial
rival Peter Nicol in the group stage, before setting up a grand final
tilt at ‘new boy’ David Palmer. ‘It was really disappointing not to be
able perform to the best of my ability last year’ commented former
World Champion Power from his National Squash Academy in Toronto ‘I
felt I was in good form, as proved to be the following week when I won
in Aberdeen, so I am looking forward to putting the record straight
this year’.
‘It is great to have
David join the tour this year, in some ways it is a new challenge but
in many an extension of a fiery old one as people will see if they
check out some of our matches on You Tube!!’ said Power with a wry
smile.
The Gold Tour event
will take place from 14-17th September on the stunning Courtwall
all-glass court situated in the heart of the St. Georges Hill LT &
SC.
The top seeds need to
also be wary of ex-World no.1 & world’s hardest hitter John White
and ex-World no.3 Simon Parke. The exciting line-up of Legends is
completed the world’s most capped squash player, Derek Ryan, a former
world no.7 himself as two local wildcards in the form of ex-World no.11
Stephen Meads and 7-time European Club Champion Tim Garner.
Tickets are selling
quickly so anyone interested in attending is advised to contact the
club asap or risk missing out. Prices from £15-£30 for the 9 Telecom
