- Sanctioned as a World Junior Circuit “Tier 2” and Asian Junior Super
Series “Platinum” event, the HEAD Hong Kong Junior Open 2012 welcomes a
new record of 560 entries from 13 countries including Chinese Taipei,
England, Korea, Japan, Jordan, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Pakistan,
Philippines, Singapore, USA and the host Hong Kong.
With the generous
support from the title-sponsor HEAD, sub-venting organization Leisure
& Cultural Services Department and drinks sponsor Perrier, 560
competitors will fight for U19, U17, U15, U13 & U11 division
titles, over 1,000 matches which will be held between 8th and 12th
August, 2012.
All preliminary
rounds, quarters and semis will take place at Cornwall St. Park Squash
& Table Tennis Centre, Kowloon Tong on 8th to 11th. But all finals
will be staged at the glass exhibition court of the Hong Kong Squash
Centre on 12th, where every year the world’s best senior players
compete in the Hong Kong Open.
An all-Hong Kong GU19
final is expected to be staged at the exhibition court on the final
day. Defending champion Lee Ka-yi is top seed in the Girls U19 event;
along with her compatriot second seed Ho Tze-lok are expected to meet
two other Hong Kong girls 3/4 seeds Chu Ka-hei and Ho Ka-po
respectively.
Asian No.2 Ahmad
Alsaraj from Jordan and local favorite Yip Tsz-fung are top seeds in
the Boys U19 event while two Malaysian boys Chal Sanjay Singh and
Muhammad Addeen Idrakie Bin Bahtiar are seeded 3/4.
In the Boys U17
category, top seed Malaysian Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal and local
contender seed two Chris Lo are in company with 3/4 competitors Yuen
Tsun-hei from Hong Kong and Ng Eain Yow from Malaysia.
A competitive array
in GU17 including top seed Malaysian Vanessa Raj and second seed
Pansy Chan from Hong Kong will encounter tough opposition from 3/4
seeds Hong Kong’s Choi Uen-shan and Rachel Arnold from Malaysia in the
Girls U17 event.
Matches start from
9.00am on Wednesday 8th and is scheduled to finish on the afternoon of
Sunday 12th with the Girls U19 final on last at 3.45pm.
