- Harry Hansen, along with a handful of others, was a true pioneer in
promoting Squash in the Southern US. Harry was a Professor of Art at
the University of South Carolina in Columbia and along with Professor
Bert Ely organized many tournaments on the 4 hardball Squash Courts at
USC. They included the South Carolina State, USC Open, Columbia Open
and Palmetto State tournaments some even before SESRA started in
Atlanta.
Along with Professor Paul Petersen he graciously hosted our University
of Georgia Squash Team when we visited USC in 1977. All of us in the
South Eastern Squash Racquets Association (SESRA) region enjoyed the
many tournaments that Bert Ely and Harry held in Columbia at USC as
well as the post tournament receptions at his home that Dee and Susan
hosted. He regaled us with his many interests including the Arts and
Squash. Harry will be missed but as his wife Dee, daughter Susan
said, and son Danny knew, his Art lives on.
Our deepest condolences for both his pain and their loss go out to Dee, Susan, Danny, his entire family and his many friends.
