NYSquash Teams Recover War of 1812 Redux Trophy, Sweep Royal Army Physical Training Corps Team
by Andy Garr

September 15, 2014 - The teams from Sports Club L/A, Westchester Squash and the Union League Club successively defeated the Royal Army Physical Training Corps Team (RAPTC) on September 8, 9 and 10 to close out the series 6-0. Most of the matches were competitive, but the New Yorkers seemed to prevail in the close ones. The British tour manager said that his players were just having too good a time due to the hospitality of NY Squash.

The final match at the Union League Club was dominated by good fellowship and many of the participants closed the bar at 1:00 a.m.  The British tour manager invited NYSquash to send a team to the UK and promised to match the hospitality they enjoyed.

After the match a brief ceremony took place. The British tour manager served and Steven Carter, President of NY Squash received the War of 1812 Redux Trophy. The trophy is a placeholder for the Tiffany designed permanent trophy, which awaits the full funding by subscription of $500,000. The fund, due to a generous contribution from the British team, now stands at $124.

Later that evening the NYSquash President and the British tour manager met to set guidelines for the next series which could take place in the UK or back in New York.

Agreed upon were the following:

Replacement of the NYSquash tour director who was thought to be too partisan and perhaps too old for the position. Apparently he was found to be asleep during some of the late evening matches.

Beer was to be served at the same time during every match. The performance of the Brits clearly suffered after beer was served.

ExPvt Gabriella Sarah was not to participate in any way. Both teams claimed that she hurt their chances. This contradictory statement was uttered after both negotiants had much to drink.

If the series ends in a tie, the team from the host country shall prevail.

Eye protection would not be required unless demanded by the Club or the opponent. This would be followed even if the match takes place in the UK.
