Olympics Push Chief Mike Vero To Be Keynote Speaker At US Open from USSQ Media
September 24, 2012 -The future of squash worldwide will be hugely impacted by the outcome of the bid for a place in the Olympic Games in 2020.
Squash players and fans in the United States and right across the globe
have been eagerly supporting the Squash2020 ‘Back the Bid’ campaign,
which has energetically ramped up momentum in recent months to generate
the attention and support of the International Olympic Committee.
Campaign communications organization Vero has been enlisted by the
World Squash Federation to lead the development and management of
squash’s Olympic bid. Vero was launched by the former Director of
Communications and Public Affairs for London’s successful 2012 Olympic
bid as host city, Mike Lee OBE.
Mr. Lee will be the keynote speaker at the U.S. SQUASH Annual Assembly,
where he will address the Annual Assembly luncheon on October 6 and
provide U.S. SQUASH members with an overview of the Olympic campaign
and the approach being used to create a compelling profile of squash to
promote to the world.
The Annual Assembly is being held in conjunction with the 2012 Delaware
Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships – an event in which,
fittingly, all of the world’s best players, and potential future
Olympians, will compete.
The U.S. SQUASH Annual Assembly is a forum where members of the U.S.
SQUASH community have the opportunity to have their say in the future
of squash in the United States. It is a free event that is open
to all U.S. SQUASH members, partners and sponsors. Everyone
attending the full Annual Assembly morning session on either Saturday
October 6 or Sunday October 7 will also receive one free entry to the
U.S. Open that same day.
Vero specializes in the business of sport and has advised many
organizations in a variety of sectors in the UK and
internationally. Mr. Lee was Director of Communications and
Public Affairs for European football’s governing body, UEFA 2000-2004
and media and political strategist for the English Premier League
1994-2000.
Mike was most recently a senior consultant to the winning Qatar 2022
FIFA World Cup and PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games bids, and played a
similar role with the successful Rio 2016 Olympic bid and the
International Rugby Board (IRB) in their campaign for the inclusion of
Rugby in the Olympic Program.
