- The 5th Annual World of Squash Golf Day took place for the first time
over the challenging Westerham Golf Course in Kent earlier this month.
Eventis Sports Marketing brought together golfers from all walks of
squash, including players, sponsors, administrators, media and fans of
the sport.
The tight tree-lined course was in stunning condition, though sadly
some of the golfers’ games were not! It was beautiful September’s day
that welcomed the eager participants, who enjoyed their first look of
the course from the club house over looking the 9th & 18th greens.
As always preparation was varied ranging from hitting plenty of balls
on the range, fine tuning the putting stroke to a pint of beer and a
bacon roll!
After dinner was served the prizes were awarded with the winning team
coming from the event organisers Eventis! Some due diligence having
earlier been done to confirm that it is ok to win your own golf team.
The team of Tim Garner, Peter Nicol, Jess Winstanley and Grant Miller
compiled 87 points to see off PCL Whitehall (84) and Courtwall (83).
Proving how tough the course was playing, the individual was won by the
only player to play to his handicap Andy Reilly from New Malden, His 36
points, edged Lee Beachill and Neil Hitchens in to a tie for second
with 35 points.
Nearest the Pins were won by St Georges Tony Morgan and Tom Richard’s
chipped in on the 9th to win closest the pin in two! Paul Daniels
produced a bit of magic to win the men’s longest drive, while Jess
Winstanley smashed the ball down 18 to win the women’s longest drive by
country mile.
Seventeen year-old Sports Aid funded golfer Dulcie Sverdloff also
impressed everyone with her ball striking and general demeanour. The
post dinner auction raised nearly £2,000 which will be ring-fenced by
Sports Aid for young squash players in need of funding.
