Hanscom Reviews The Weymuller Quarters, Calls The Semis from Bob Hanscom
September 29, 2012
- Here are the reviews of the quarter-final predictions, results and
comments from the $50,000 Women's Squash Association Carol Weymuller
Squash Open being held at Heights Casino in Brooklyn, New York which
took place last night. In addition, predictions for tonight's
semi-final matches.
Nour El Sherbini Versus Jenny Duncalf
The Prediction: This should be a real good one, with the young 16
year-old Nour playing great squash and Jenny showing that she's still
quick and very experienced, not to mention being the former #2 player
in the world for over two straight years. How do we call this one?
We'll give it a shot...Jenny in four!
The Results: Nour El Sherbini beat Jenny Duncalf 11/6, 11/9, 11/6.
Comments: Nour underestimated! Too young, too tall, too much touch...too good tonight!
Joelle King versus Raneem El Weleily
The Prediction: Raneem is playing the best squash of her career - and
now the #2 in the world. So...we have to go with Raneem, possibly in
three straight games...if she remains patient.
The Result: Raneem El Weiley beat Joelle King 3/11, 10/12, 11/3, 11/9, 13/11.
Comments: Not quite three straight! Patience lacking in the first two,
dominant in the second two and could have been upset, but Raneem came
through in a very tight fifth.
Annie Au versus Laura Massaro
The Prediction: Laura's complete and patient game should neutralize
Annie's shot-making. We could see Laura coming through to the semi's in
four games.
The result: Laura Massaro beat Annie Au 9/11, 11/4, 11/3, 11/6.
Comments: Annie's shots were working in the first, but Laura's steady,
patient and accurate game gave her a relatively easy last three as
predicted, 3/1.
Alison Waters versus Nicol David
The Prediction: As mentioned, Nicol is on a mission! Although on her
come-back trail, Alison will have a tough time dealing with Nicol's
complete game. Once again, we see it for Nicol in three straight
well-fought games and through to the semi-finals.
The Result: Alison Waters beat Nicol David 11/9, 5/11, 11/3, 11/7.
Comments: Sounds incredible that Nicol was showing signs of fatigue in
the fourth and fifth games. Guess she's human after all! Let's see what
happens at the U.S. Open!
Now...predictions for the semi-finals with two Egyptians fighting it out on one side, two Brits on the other side!
4.00 pm Nour El Sherbini versus Raneem El Weiley
The Prediction: Another upset here! We're going out on a limb and picking Nour to upset Raneem in four games.
5.00 pm Alison Waters versus Laura Massaro
The Prediction: No upset here! Laura should fend off Alison, the upset
player of the tournament - and continue her winning ways to the final
against Nour.
