September2, 2013
- Pro Squash Tour announced today that Amr Khaled Khalifa has
registered to compete in PST's Bobcat Classic, which will be held at
Bates College in Lewiston, Maine next month. Khalifa is college
squash's national champion. Originally from Egypt, he is about to enter
his sophomore year at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York.
Before coming to the States for his college education, he won the World
Junior Squash Championship. "He is obviously a
wonderfully talented young man," said PST's Joe McManus. "He is also a
great ambassador for the game off the court. We're thrilled to welcome
him to PST competition." Khalifa may have the
oportunity to compete against two legends of the game in Maine. David
Palmer (Australia), PST's reigning champion, and Thierry Lincou
(France) have also registered to compete in Maine. Both Palmer and
Lincou were busy this summer representing their countries during the
world team championships. France finished 3rd and Australia was 4th. "For that weekend,"
McManus continued, "the most interesting story lines in squash will be
coming from the courts at Bates College." Running alongside the
professional squash tournament will be several amateur divisions. The
entry fee of $30 also includes complimentary admission to each pro
match. To register for the amateur event, click here.
