- New Zealander Joelle King has been named Player of the Month for
September by the authoritative London-based Squash Player magazine
after winning her first PSA Tour title in over 18 months in August.
The 26-year-old continued her successful comeback from a serious
Achilles injury by claiming the Australian Open in Melbourne, where she
was seeded second and beat favourite Annie Au, of Hong Kong, 3/0 in
thefinal.
"As soon as I finished the match, I got quite emotional," said the
former world no.4 afterwards. "You just remember all the work you've
done leading up to that moment. It's been a long ride."
King is setting her sights on climbing back up the world rankings, after slipping to 57 since her injury exactly a year ago.
"Definitely, there's no reason why not," she said. "Anything is
possible, especially when I think back to where I was eight or nine
months ago, and where I am now.
"I think there's still a lot of room for improvement. I'm still not exactly where I want to be - so look out top 10!"
